Flashlight, permitted or not?

Hello.

Recently I've been kicked from your deathrun server for using flashlight. Apperantly it make some people's FPS drop. However, flashlight has alot of strategic advantages in deathrun. It has been used for a long time to spot traps in the floor, furthermore it is just generally nice to have in dark maps like deathrun_death.

Now, because a few people has a computer that cant handle something as simple as flashlight doesnt mean I cant use it, right? They could just turn down their settings, update their drivers or whatever the *bleep* is wrong with their personal computer. I mean, I dont get kicked from battlefield servers for firing with a tank or using flashy spells in world of warcraft. And this is just flashlight? Come on, so we cant use smoke grenades from the drshop either? Smokes should decrease their FPS by far more than flashlight.

So I guess I just wanted to clarify, can it really be true that flashlight is forbidden because a few people with terrible PCs get a FPS drop because of it?

No no no, it's disturbing a few people with PCs who cant handle something as simple as flashlight and probably shouldnt be using that PC to be playing games in the first place. Kicking people for using flashlight would be the same as kicking people for putting on and off silencer because the sound annoys you.

Let´s do some math:

If you turn your flashlight on and more than one player is complaining about it it is better to make you turn it off then loose the other players. You must listen to the admin whether you like it or not.

So if I complain about the sound of putting on/off silencer will you tell people to stop? No. You dont have any interest in the "one player". If I said "alright, I'll find another server then" you wouldnt care about me, "the one player".

No, the creation and enforcing of this flashlight rule is solely subjective and only enforced because it affects people you are friends with, or have some sort of social relationshop with. To be honest, people I wouldn't have on my server if I were you. 14 year olds who do nothing but yell noob at everyone, flaming people, insulting people and breaking rules whenever admins are not online.

Terrorkom is a pretty big operation, with lots of servers and players to boot. If they allow their admins, who are enforcers, to make decisions that only affect people they do not like, what wont it do to their already damaged reputation. I can come up with multiple examples of admins bending the rules in their own favor, and if I scroll through my console log right now I will have a few already.

What is the point of having any rules if the admins ignore them, only choose to enforce them when they think it's just or they make up their own? Think about that for a second.

It is not that I don't like listening to the admins, but if the admins are not following the servers own rules are they really the ones to enforce them?

Again, my intent behind using flashlight is not to hurt other players and I urge you to start reading what is wrote. Furthermore "all ur reasons are not true" is a really weak counter arguement.

If the silencer analogy does not please you, here's another one:
Voice chat is really hurting my chance at picking up the sound of "+use" while midair. Would you please stop using that or should I go into settings and turn it off?

Something to consider here is the fact that this can be changed inside settings, just like the flashlight bug, smoke bug and nightvision bug.

But if you choose to enforce this new made-up-on-the-fly-for-the-benefit-of-one-player flashlight rule I must ask you to also enforce all the other official server rules.

if my voice hurts u u can mute me, if YOUR flashlight makes me lagg, fps drops, so i can not play i have no chance to change that! its up to u to turn it off.

about one hour ago there was someone on the server with the name "the flashlight man", u think he namens himself like that because the map is too dark or because he wants to damage the other players who can not afford a computer that can handle this?

I was flashlightman. I changed my name to make a point, not to hurt other players. And it is changeable. There are tons of guides on how to fix your settings so flashlight, smoke and nightvision doesnt hurt your FPS. So it can be changed inside settings. I have stated this multiple times, if you didnt believe it why have you not questioned it before? This again shows me you aren't reading anything Im writing. Also, the server can turn off the use of flashlight.

You disregard valid arguements as spoofs because you do not make them out to be true. There is no objectivism behind your decisions and you make up rules when they are convinient to you. Furthermore, my statements of admins bending or ignoring rules are mostly based on your actions. You let people freerun, let people flame and insult eachother and even bought HEs as T ad infinitum. This is exactly what I've been trying to point out. They do however have a lot of servers and pretty great ones at that. Nice mods, nice ping, good uptime etc.

They just need to choose their admins more carefully and have them behave more professionally to have some of the greatest servers online. I see multiple violations every day when admins are online, some even comitted by the admins, that are not corrected. Mainly because of social relationships and favourism.

This has little to do with flashlight, but with how you admins choose to belittle everyone else on the server but your friends who are raised to some altitude the server rules can't reach, and then make up your own rules for how you want the server to be. This is not your server, not your rules. You may have some influence but in the end this is Terrorkom's server and they have set the rules they want for a reason. Adding extras or subtracting some severly changes the image of the server and the image should reflect the profile Terrorkom is going for, which it isn't.

Since the last updates many people are lagging because of flashlight and some people have a bad computer and get fps drops because of it. So why are you so selfish, think about the other players. If the admin tells you to turn off your flashlight, u have to. You have a usp with it u can shoot on the floor, or just run and die who cares, its called deathrun, if u fail the first you remember this trap for goods.

ist mir jetzt zu anstrengend grad auf englisch zu schreiben..
das problem war ganz einfach dass ich von mehreren leuten angeschrieben wurde dass er die ganze zeit flashlight an hat und sie ihn mehrmals drum gebeten haben es aus zu machen auf grund von laggs. dann kam ich auf den server und hab ihn auch nochmal gebeten flashlight auszumachen, weil halt einige spieler laggen, er wollte nicht. dann hab ich ihn gekickt weil ich es für sinnvoller hielt einen zu kicken als das 5 leute den server leaven wegen ihm.
zumal er mit dem argument kommt dass death eine dunkle map ist und er ja so oft deathrun spielt, dann wüsste er, dass es auf dieser map keine nicht sichtbaren fallen im boden sind die man durch flashlight sehen würde..

ich denke nicht dass es irgendetwas mit unfähigkeit meinerseits zu tun hat oder kindisches verhalten oder sonst was. ist mir auch zu doof mich zu rechtfertigen oder damit auseinander zu setzen, da ich eh bei meiner meinung bleiben werde und er es nicht einsehen wird :)

First of all, I'm glad to see that you're really interested in finding a solution to this issue, although you're rather a random player on Terrorkom. The problem is, that using the flashlight affects quite much the gameplay of the other players, dropping frames per second to a not playable level. With other players, I do not mean an admin or one of his darlings, but more like 15 - 25 percent of the actual players, complaining discretely via admin/steamchat. Most of them coming from eastern europe, playing here with old computers, because usually russian/poland/ukraine servers are loaded with tons of trash plugins. Just figure out the difference of the economic situation in eastern europe than somewhere in western hemisphere ( where I think you're living in ), then you get it why they cant ''just'' buy a new computer. There is no possibility for them changing anything in their computer to play with flashlight, since settings are already on lowest level. Voice chat, however, can be easily turned off by two clicks.

I don't get it why you compare putting on/off silencer of the USP to the use of flashlight, since former does not have an influence to the gameplay of other players at all. Both the silencer and flashlight are normal features in CS 1.6, but for the deathrun mod the silencer is useless anyway and shooting the ground with the USP is an alternative to detect some traps. They're by the way called traps and not ''structures you can die of, if youre incautious'', you should not detect them from the first sight. If you play maps more than one or two times, you should remember most of the traps anyway. As far as I know from other admins, the flashlight will be removed soon, an addition, which will apply as a rule. The admins did not break the rules in this point, if you think they did somewhere else then you can create a thread here (http://www.terrorkom-clan.de/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=21) and complain about it.
